Basic Requirements

Internet Connection

You need to be connected to the Internet to send e-mails with V3mail.   Dial-up, ISDN, xDSL, Cable modem, T1 & LAN (local area networks) are all ways to connect to the internet.

Sound Card & Microphone

In order to create Voice messages on your computer, you need a sound card & a microphone.  Most computer systems have a sound card installed.  If you hear the Microsoft start sound (or any sound), then you have a sound card installed on your computer.  If not, you can get one quite cheap from your local computer store.  You'll also need a microphone to plug into the back of your sound card which doesn't cost much either.

E-mail program OR SMTP e-mail account

A SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) e-mail account is an internet service provided by either your ISP (Internet Service Provider)  or a FREE internet service for sending emails.  Almost every ISP provides a SMTP e-mail account and will give you the name of the server (e.g. smtp.ispname.com).  This name is used to configure V3mail.

If you do not have a SMTP e-mail account BUT can send e-mails using an e-mail program like Outlook (Express), Eudora, Netscape Messenger, or any other mail program with a MAPI interface then V3mail can send e-mails using the program.

Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP

V3mail runs on the following operating systems Windows 95 (OSR2 included), Windows 98 (Second Edition, Millenium Edition included), Windows NT (NT 4 Server/Workstation), Windows 2000 (Professional, Advanced, Enterprise).

*optional PC video device

A PC video device is an optional device used to create Video messages or take image snapshots.  The video device must be Video for Windows (VfW) compatible, which most are.  Common parallel port, USB, video capture cards and other video devices work with V3mail.

description of the "Ad engine"

v3mail.com's software "Ad engine" does not and will not transmit any information to any site, not even our own.  The only thing the "Ad engine" does is download Ads from either the v3mail.com or 8 Bit Software.com (the parent company) website.  The Ads consist of rotating images with a clickable link which will open up a browser window.   The "Ad engine" was developed in house and is included in the FREEWARE version of V3mail. When the program is closed, the "Ad engine" which is part of the program is shut down.   Nothing runs in the background.
