Setup
Options -> Program Settings
Using MAPI
In the "Email Settings" box, select the "use MAPI"
option if you have an email program (like
Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, Netscape, Eudora etc) with which you can already send
email. The "use Mapi" option will allow V3mail to send emails through the MAPI
compliant email program on your computer. When using the MAPI interface, the default
email account on the mail program is responsible for sending the email.

email directly using the SMTP server provided by most ISPs. Click on the "Advanced"
button to bring up the "Email Settings" window for SMTP.
1. Select "use SMTP account"
2. Enter your name in the "Your Name" field
3. Enter in the email address provided by your ISP in the "Your
Email Address" field.
4. (OPTIONAL) Enter in the "Reply-To email address"
where you want replies to your email sent to.
5. In the "Outgoing MAIL (SMTP) Server" field
enter the name of the SMTP server provided by your ISP.
6. (OPTIONAL) The "SMTP port" should be left at
the default 25. Change this only if you know that your ISP uses a different port for
SMTP.

Automatic SMTP detection
Clicking on the "AUTO" button in the
"Email Settings" window will let V3mail try to find your SMTP email settings if it is already
configured on your system. If you get the message "You are now ready to send
Voice & Video emails!". Congratulations! V3mail detected the SMTP settings and is ready to send emails.
Otherwise it will default back to the "use MAPI" selection.
From: email account manager
If you have multiple SMTP email accounts or aliases you want to manage, you can use
the Account Book. In the main program window, click on the "From:"
button to open it. This enables you to quickly switch the name & email account
or SMTP server from which you send your emails.

Address book & MAPI address book
V3mail has a built in address book to manage your email addresses. You can
access it by clicking on the To:, Cc: or Bcc: button . If you already have an email program
which already stores your email addresses, in the V3mail address book, click on the drop
down window and select "MAPI Address Book." This
will open the address book from that program and allow you import addresses directly into
V3mail. If you check the "Always use the MAPI Address book" box, then
everytime you click on the To:, Cc:, or Bcc: buttons you will open the MAPI address book.

F.A.Q.
/ Troubleshooting
Q: I'm an AOL user, how can I use V3mail to send Voice & Video messages?
A: Please read the above section on "Using V3mail with Hotmail."
Another option would be to sign up for a FREE (or PAY ) email account that provides a
SMTP server. Once you do this, they will give you the necessary information
to configure your email program (like Microsoft Outlook) and the necessary SMTP server
name required by V3mail.
Q:
So where do I get a FREE SMTP email service?
A There are probably
many FREE email services that provide you a SMTP based email account. Here are the
few that we are familiar with. Be sure to follow their setup instructions.
http://www.Nettaxi.com - web based/POP/SMTP access - email client optional
http://www.MailandNews.com - POP/SMTP access -
requires email client
http://www.HotPop.com - POP/SMTP access - requires email client
If you would like to suggest more, then send email to comments@v3mail.com.
Q: I can send emails in my corporate network using my email program.
How can I use V3mail to send
voice & video messages?
A: In Options -> Program Settings, select the "use MAPI" option and V3mail will send email through your
MAPI compliant email program.
Q: What is a SMTP
server?
A: Click here for the answer in the Glossary pages.
Q: What do I do if my ISP doesn't provide a SMTP server?
A: First make sure you don't have a SMTP server by contacting technical support or
your system administrator.
In Options -> Program Settings, select the
"use MAPI" option and V3mail will send email through your MAPI
compliant email program.
Another option would be to sign up for a FREE (or PAY
) email account that provides a SMTP server. Once you do this, they
will give you the necessary information to configure your email program (like Microsoft
Outlook) and the necessary SMTP server name required by V3mail. See the the question above "So where
do I get a FREE SMTP email service?"
Q: I get the message, "SMTP error 501 invalid domain
name." What's wrong?
A: This
is a very common error with email programs, including V3mail. There are
many possible causes for this error. Click here to view
possible solutions.
Q: On starting V3mail, I get the message "The
xxxxxx.xxx file is linked to missing export MAPI32.DLL:17." What's wrong and how do I fix this?
A: The "mapi32.dll:17 error" is a result of
V3mail assuming that a Microsoft or compatible email program was installed on the system.
Some programs like Netscape Communicator 4.5 change the Microsoft MAPI32.dll file and
therefore Windows reports the file as missing certain functionality.
To restore the MAPI functionalty of V3mail,
you can either install Microsoft Outlook Express (included with Internet Explorer) or use
the fix provided by Microsoft here.
Q: I couldn't send my email. I received the message, "A connection
to the SMTP server xxx.xx.xxx could not be established." What's wrong?
A: At the the time you are sending your email, your email server
is either down or the server name is invalid. If you still can't send your email
sometime later, then you need to change the server name specified in the program
settings. Select the Menu Options -> Program Settings
and enter in the new server name or try the Auto configuration button to detect your
settings.
Q: How
do I receive my emails with V3mail?
A: V3mail is used to send emails. To receive emails use any popular
email programs like Microsoft Outlook (Express), Netscape Messenger (included with
Netscape), or Qualcomm Eudora.
