The following section will describe each option
that can be set in the Program Settings window. Access the following window by going
to Options -> Program Settings in the menu.

Email Settings

figure 2. Email Settings part
use MAPI - this option
enables your messages to be sent through your existing email program like Outlook, Outlook
Express, Netscape Messenger, Eudora, etc.
MAPI preview message -
this option is available only in V3mail 2.0 PRO. When sending messages via the MAPI
interface, this option enables you to preview the message in the default mail program
before it is sent.
use SMTP - this option
enables your messages to be sent directly through the SMTP provided by your ISP. If
your existing email program is configured to send using SMTP you can let V3mail try to
detect them.
- Auto
- click this button and V3mail will try to detect the SMTP settings used on your system
- Advanced
- click this button and it will open up the the "Email Settings" window.
Read the Internet documentation pages for more help on how to
manually enter the SMTP information.
use MAPI Address book
- with this option checked, everytime you click on the To:, Cc:, or Bcc: button you will open
up the Address book of your email program. Check this box if you have all of your
contacts in your main email program like Outlook, Outlook Express, Netscape Messenger, or
Eudora.
Voice & Video Encoders

figure 3. Voice & Video Encoders part
Windows VOICE encoder <.wav>
- this selection is for sending GSM compressed <.wav> messages. This audio
selection is only provided for compatibility with the older versions of V3mail. Some
systems may not be able to encode or play the message when used for the fist time, but the
necessary codec can be installed from the Windows Installation CD. Read the F.A.Q. /
Troubleshooting section of the Voice documentation. It's
probably better to use the new default MP3 audio selection below.
MP3 MPEG Layer3 <.mp3>
- this selection is for sending MPEG Layer 3 compressed messages, otherwise know as MP3.
This is probably the best format to use since virtually all operating systems and
other devices can play this type of file. The compression is extremely good at the
default 16 kHz setting (approx 120 kBytes per minute of recording). At the 8 kHz
setting the quality of the audio is less but the filesize drops significantly (approx 60
kBytes per minute of recording).
- 16 kHz /
8 kHz - this selection is for the recording quality of the MP3. 16 kHz
(default) sounds much better than at 8 kHz, but has a larger resultant filesize.
No Compression - this
selection is for sending uncompressed PCM wave files playable on most operating
systems. The file uses 8 kBytes / sec. No compression should only be used for
very short messages.
Custom Encoder - this
selection is for using an external command line program.
- Configure
- Please read the Encoders documentation for how to set it up.
Real Video Encoder <.rm>
- this selection is for sending video messages compressed with Real Media G2 technology.
The Real Media G2 encoder provides on the order of 100 - 1000x compression on video
files*. This is the default encoder.
- Excellent
/ High / Normal / Good - this selection is for the recording quality of the Real
Video encoder. The "Good" setting provides the highest compression and
suitable image quality. The default quality is "Normal."
Windows VIDEO encoder <.avi>
- this selection is for sending compressed <.avi> video messages. This video
selection is only provided for compatibility with the older versions of V3mail. Some
systems may not be able to encode or play the message when used for the fist time, but the
necessary codec can be installed from the Windows Installation CD. Read the F.A.Q. /
Troubleshooting section of the Video documentation.
General Program Settings
The Message Sent dialog window will show up after you
successfully send a message. The options that show up there can also be set in the Program
Settings window in the General Program Sesttings box.

figure 4. General Program Settings part
Save message after sending
- after your message is sent, the message will be saved. You can load the message
later using the File -> Load Message command.
Clear message after sending
- after your message is sent, the message will be cleared.
Automatically close confirmation
dialog - if this is checked, after about 5 seconds the Message Sent dialog
will close.
