Voice Setup
Plugging in your
Microphone
Although it seems simple, you still have to make
sure that you plugged your microphone into the "Mic In" port and NOT the
"Line In" port of the sound card. While it may work if it is plugged into
the "Line In" port, the performance may be poor.
"Mic In" OK
"Line In" NOT OK
Setting up Recording
Next you have to set the recording volume of your sound card.
1. Go to the Windows Control Panel (click the Start button, select Settings,
and then Control Panel).
2. Double-click the Multimedia Icon.
3. Click on the Audio tab.

created when you record an audio message. Select one of the four possible audio
options by clicking on the appropriate button.
How to Use
Click on the Voice message icon in the toolbar of the main window.
The Voice window is used to record your voice message. It automatically
compresses the audio file when attached.
Select message encoder
In Options -> Program Settings "Voice &
Video Encoders," select the output filetype of your voice message (default MP3 16
kHz).
*optional Select MP3 bitrate
In Options -> Program Settings "Voice &
Video Encoders," if you have selected the "MP3 Mpeg Layer 3"
encoder, then you can also select the Bitrate. The "16 kHz"
selection provides the best quality for speech using 2 kBytes / sec of
sound. While the "8 kHz" selection provides acceptable
quality for speech but uses only 1 kBytes / sec of sound. The default
setting is "16 kHz."
Start recording
Click on the Rec button to start the recording. The total time and
size of the voice recording will be updated while recording.

F.A.Q./Troubleshooting
Q: I want to create MP3 voice
messages, but the Program settings window won't let me select it. How can I create
MP3 voice messages?
A: You need to install Windows Media Player 7.
Q:When I play a 8 kHz MP3 message on Winamp it sounds like the message has a heavy echo. How can I fix this?
A: Older versions of
Winamp have a problem playing 8 kHz MP3 messages. The latest version of Winamp fixes this problem. You can also try loading
the message into programs like Windows Media Player
7, Real Player, or Sonique. These MP3 players will play the 8 kHz MP3
message correctly
Q: Does my recipient need to have V3mail or other special software to
play the voice messages?
A: V3mail does not need to be
installed on you recipient's computer to hear your voice messages. But to play MP3
messages they may need to download player programs like Windows Media Player, Real Player, or Sonique.
Q: My voice
message recipient tried to play the Windows Encoder compressed .wav voice message, but it
didn't work. I'm sure I sent a working voice message. Why didn't it play on my
recipient's computer?
A: Your message
recipient needs to re-install the Multimedia component of the Windows installation.
Your message recipient should go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel ->
Add/Remove Program. Click on the Windows Setup tab. In the
Components window put a solid checkmark next to Multimedia. Click OK to continue.
Q: I recorded a voice message, but when I
clicked the Play button, I didn't hear anything. What's wrong?
A: There are many different reasons why this could be
happening. Below is a checklist of possible solutions.
1. Make sure the microphone is connected to the "Mic in" input of
your sound card and NOT the "Line in" input.
2. Check to make sure the microphone line record volume is set to an
appropriate level. Go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel ->
Multimedia then select the Audio properties for recording (this may vary from computer to
computer). Make sure the recording level is set to an appropriate level.
3. In rare instances the sound card installed is incapable of recording from
the microphone input (although it can play sounds just fine). The only solution for
this would be to purchase a true 100% Sound Blaster compatible sound card.
4. The best way to test your sound card is to run the program
C:\Windows\SndRec32.exe . You can also find this program on the internet.
Click on the Rec button and check if you can record from your microphone. If you
can, then your setup will work with V3mail.
If not, then check over the 3 solutions above
Q: I recorded a voice message using the Windows
Voice compression, played the message back, but when I clicked the Attach button nothing
happened. Why isn't the voice message being attached?
A: You need to
re-install the Multimedia component of the Windows installation. Go to Start ->
Settings -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Program. Click on the Windows Setup
tab. In the Components window put a solid checkmark next to Multimedia. Click OK to continue.
Q: How do I use the "custom encoder" selection in
the Program Settings window?
A: See the Encoders section of the V3mail
documentation .
Hardware Compatibility
The creation of a audio file with V3mail requires any Sound Blaster compatible sound card or any soundcard supported
